Taking a Line for a Walk

Creative Fields
Architecture, Digital Fabrication, Experiments, Teaching

The works under the heading “Taking a Line for a Walk” comprise both personal work and coursework with students from the Aarhus School of Architecture.

The two-week course also entitled Taking a Line for a Walk, in the Spring 2017 (with Jacob Hilmer), and Spring 2018 semesters introduced students to robotic extrusion with clay.  The toolset for the course required students to define toolpath geometry in Grasshopper for Rhino, and, using the Axis plugin by Ryan Hughes, translate this geometry into fabrication information.  The course worked with both small scale porcelain extrusion and larger scale stoneware extrusion, as well as clay preparation, firing, and glazing.
